About Karma411

1) What is Karma411?
Karma411 is a social collaboration tool that allows your nonprofit to reach out and connect with new and existing audiences to raise money and awareness.

2) Who started Karma411?
Karma411 was founded by two software entrepreneurs - Mark Fasciano and John Murcott. Search for their profiles on the site.

3) Why was Karma411 started?
The site was started started with a desire to leverage the viral nature of social networking sites to do good for the world. Karma411 allows member to "connect to a cause" and encourage others to do so as well.

4) Do you charge a processing fee on donations? And why?
Karma411 currently deducts a small processing fee on donations which helps offset the cost of processing the credit card charge; the remainder is sent directly to the nonprofit. There are two different rates, depending on whether the nonprofit you are donating to is a subscribing organization on Karma411.

FAQ's for Nonprofits

1) Do I have to register my nonprofit organization on Karma411 to receive funds?
All 501c3 organizations registered with the IRS are in the Karma411 database and therefore can be donated to. However, only NPA's (Nonprofit Affiliates) can run fundraising campaigns.

2) What does the "Enroll" next to my nonprofit mean?
Karma411 members can donate to any 501c3 organization registered with the IRS, even if the nonprofit has not registered on Karma411. Therefore, there is an "enroll" link next to every nonprofit which has not registered on Karma411. If you work for or work with a nonprofit organization, we encourage you to enroll your nonprofit onto Karma411. The individual who enrolls the nonprofit onto the site automatically becomes an administrator of the nonprofit on Karma411. There is no charge for enrolling a nonprofit, so however we prefer that someone within the organization is the nonprofit administrator.

3) What can a Charity do on Karma411?
Nonprofit organizations have two major needs that can be fulfilled through Karma411; raising funds and raising awareness for their causes. Karma411 supports these two activities through online, People to People, campaigns.

4) What is an NPA?
NPA stands for Nonprofit Affiliate. These are the nonprofits that have enrolled and created a NPA page on Karma411. NPA's give the ability for users to create fundraising and awareness campaigns for the charity. It is free for a nonprofit to become a NPA.

5) What is a NPA Page?
When a charity organization first enrolls on Karma411, they create a NPA or Nonprofit Affiliate Page. The NPA page consists of basic contact information and the logo of the nonprofit. Essentially the NPA page is the first step Karma411 members that the nonprofit is active on Karma411.

6) What is a subscribing NPA?
There are costs that Karma411 incurs to maintain and keep the technology on Karma411 going. In order to maintain the level of quality on the website, Karma411 offers a premium subscription fee to NPA's for additional amenities. Some of the benefits for being a subscribing nonprofit are NPA analytics, support from the Karma411 team and a lower transaction fee.

7) What is a campaign?
A campaign is a user generated page which is used to obtain support through social networking. The user can strive for a monetary fundraising goal, or a goal of supporting members. The unique aspect of the Karma411 campaign is the social network or peer to peer functionality. The users can invite friends, post results, write klogs (karma blogs) and promote the campaign on other platforms. However it is not only the creator of the campaign who can benefit from these tools. Any member or invitee can invite friends and post messages.

9) Are there any additional fees?
Aside from a premium subscription option, nonprofits can also receive additional support on an as-need basis. To receive a quote for personalized support, please call us at (917) 376- 2890.

10) How does my NPA receive corporate matching?
Karma411 can match your nonprofit organization with corporate sponsor. In order to be eligible for one of Karma411's corporate sponsors, your nonprofit must be a subscribing NPA.

11) We already have a corporate sponsor, can they give corporate matching?
Yes, we encourage nonprofits to expand their relationships with their corporate sponsors. If you would like more information on how to do this, please call us at (917) 376- 2890.

12) Why should my organization be on Karma411 instead of a Facebook or Myspace?
We don't believe that you should be on Karma411 instead of other social networking sites! Your organization should use all marketing channels including Karma411. Karma411 even has a Facebook Application, which allow facebook users to create campaigns and donate through Karma411.

FAQ for Individuals

1) What are the benefits of becoming a Member?
Being a member of Karma411 is being a member of the online nonprofit community. Karma411 members can create campaigns for, and donate to, their favorite charities. Karma411 members will have a donations report of all of their year's donations, which they can use a record for taxes. Also Karma411 members can keep track of their Karma Score.

2) Do I have to put my information in Karma411?
Some information is required to be a member of Karma411, for example your email address, your first name and your last name. However you have the option of making those items public or private.

3) If I make a donation to a charity through Karma411, will I get a receipt? And will my name be published?
Yes, you will be emailed a receipt shortly after we receive your donation. We encourage you to keep the receipt for tax purposes. As far as your name being published for giving a donation, that's completely up to you. If you'd like to remain anonymous, you'll see this option when making the donation.

Karma411 is the online community for the nonprofit world. Any and all organizations that are charity minded are connected through Karma411.

6) What is my Karma Score and how is it calculated?
Your Karma Score is a measurement of your activity and accomplishment within Karma411. It's a fun and rewarding way to keep track of the difference you make in the community and it shows that your actions have positive, measurable consequences. No other social networking site quantifies user activity so positively!

7) How is Karma measured on Karma411?
Karma411 tracks the activity of members and updates their Karma score immediately. The score can be tracked near the member info area near the Karma411 logo on the top right of the screen.

8) How do I increase my Karma Score?
All activity is being recorded and processed by the Karma411 system. Inviting Friends, Running Campaigns and Making Donations are some of the most valuable activities in terms of generating a higher score.

FAQ for Corporations

1) Does Karma411 offer advertising?
Karma411 does not offer corporations traditional web advertising. Instead Karma411 has created a partnership with socially conscious corporations who want to encourage individuals to give back to their communities. This is done through Karma411's corporate sponsorship. Instead of traditional banner ads, companies can match donors and become a sponsor for individual's campaigns.

2) Does Karma411 offer corporate matching?
Yes. Karma411 allows corporations to match campaigns dollar for dollar through cause-related marketing.

3) What is cause-related marketing?
Cause marketing or cause-related marketing refers to a type of marketing involving the cooperative efforts of a "for profit" business and a non-profit organization for mutual benefit. The term is sometimes used more broadly and generally to refer to any type of marketing effort for social and other charitable causes, including in-house marketing efforts by non-profit organizations. Cause marketing differs from corporate giving (philanthropy) as the latter generally involves a specific donation that is tax deductible, while cause marketing is a marketing relationship generally not based on a donation.

4) Where will my corporation's logo appear?
Corporate sponsor receive real estate directly on the campaign page, as well as all invitations sent to individuals through the Karma411 campaign.

Privacy and Security

1) Is the information on Karma411 reliable?
Karma411 uses a patent-pending process to enable readers to determine the reliability of the information. Karma411 enables you to determine: 1) Who wrote it? 2) What did other people think? and 3) How much did they mean it? In addition to this Karma411 provides an objective, independent "Fact Check" service that will verify the information behind a Member's profile.

2) What if I don't like what someone writes about me?
First take a deep breath. Celebrity comes with a price; everyone's going to get some bad press sometime in their lives. Now read over that post again. There are three things you can do: 1) respond to the posting yourself, 2) vote it inaccurate with your friends, and 3) email the posting Member to discuss the post (posts may be removed at any time). There are far fewer negative posts than you might think. And what better way to de-claw a critic than with multiple positive posts by your friends?

3) What happens to the information I put on Karma411?
There are two types of information on Karma411: public and private. Your public information is made freely available to any visitor. Your private information is visible only to you. You are in complete control. You only need supply the information you want others to see. If you don't want your email address published, it won't be published. It's that simple! If at any point you wish to remove your information from 411 Karma, you can resign at any time. Resigning will instantly erase all your records, including everything that anyone has written about you. Also, rest assured, Karma411 will never sell user information to third-party vendors. That's not what we're about.

4) Will Karma411 sell my information?
No. We already publish Members' public information for free. Our business model is based on fact checking fees and future advertising.

5) What if I don't like what someone writes about me?

You can resign from Karma411 at any time, and resigning will instantly erase all your records, including everything that anyone has written about you.
